Round Robin U-21 AUSTRALIA vs USA-WEST Date 15/06/2005(Wed)17:00 Place Maishima Sports Island ,Osaka,Japan
Game Report The fifth game was against the Australian men's national squad(AUS) and the American men's west coast regional team(WEST).
The earth shook just as the 1Q began. WEST got a head start getting the first goal by passing the ball the instant the whistle of restart was blown. AUS was completely caught off guard and that first point taken by WEST was a heavy blow. WEST got many chances of extra-man offense and kept AUS far-off by keeping their lead. AUS c ame into WEST territory numerous times, but was unable to get through WEST's tight defense. But AUS's goalie gave WEST a hard time by saving all of their shots and the scoreboard didn't budge for a while. Then, WEST got 2 goals afterwards, and the score became 4-0.
During the 2Q, AUS would try to catch up, but as soon as they got a goal, WEST would get one right after. Neither side would give in and the quarter was a tense one.
Early in the 3Q, AUS scores 2 points and grasped their pace, but both teams got many fouls called on them, and even though AUS had 6 exra-man offense chances they were only able to get one shot into the goal. On the contrary, WEST slammed in accurate shots and didn't for even a moment let AUS catch up.
WEST got to a flying start in the 4Q. AUS creeps right behind them, but loses their chances of catching up by getting an ill-timed foul called on them. Eventhough they got one goal during extra-man offense, AUS was unable to change the rhythm of the game, and the game ended with the score of 5-11. The game turned out to be a rough one with many fouls being called, but was also a very energetic and powerful one, in which one could witness strong checks, speedy passes and piercing shots here and there.
